Open Tailgate On Lorry Sends Scooter Rider Flying

This shocking video shows an unsuspecting rider flying backwards off his scooter after being hit in the face by a an oncoming lorry’s unsecured tailgate.

The accident was captured by a traffic camera on Fuxin Road in Taichung’s Wufeng District, which is in West Taiwan, on 9th September.

Video of the incident shows the lorry, which is transporting an excavator, having turned onto the road when its tailgate that was unsecured swings open into the opposite lane.

Scooter rider Mr Liu, 26, was not able to react in time before it hit him in the face.

The video shows Mr Liu being thrown backwards off his scooter, and he is seen lifeless on the road as his motorcycle helmet is smashed to pieces and his scooter slides out of frame.

According to reports, Mr Liu, who was on his way to work, was found without vital signs, and is believed to have ‘died instantly’ during the accident.

He was declared dead on arrival when taken to a local hospital, having suffered fatal trauma to his head and chest, reports added.

Lorry driver Mr Chen, 41, was arrested and has been charged with manslaughter due to negligence.

Investigations are ongoing.
