A nun who hung up her habit to become a pop star is set to be a contestant on Italy’s answer to Celebrity Survivor.
Cristina Scuccia, who boasts 133,000 Instagram followers, is reported to have already packed her bags for her flight to Honduras.
Italian media have confirmed her as a contestant in the upcoming season of L’Isola dei Famosi, which will premiere on Italian TV on 17th April.
The programme is Italy’s answer to the US reality TV show Celebrity Survivor, which sees a group of celebrities in an isolated location.
There, they must provide food, fire, and shelter for themselves.
The production is also said to give contestants free condoms in their medical packs.
Born in Vittoria, Sicily, in 1988, Cristina decided to become Sister Cristina in 2008.
She said: “I made this choice when I was 19, when I met the Ursuline Sisters.”
Cristina, now 34, came to her country’s attention when she took part in The Voice of Italy in 2014.
She went on to win the singing competition, landing herself a record deal with Universal.
The lead single from her debut album ‘Sister Cristina’ later that year was a cover of Madonna’s raunchy classic ‘Like a Virgin’.
But her music career never really took off, and she later moved to Spain to work as a waitress.
Her last social media post dressed in her nun’s habit came in January 2021, when she wrote: “Today marks 12 years since my first ‘Yes’!
“I thank the Lord for these years of life given to Him. Through joy and deepest darkness, He has been and always is by my side!”
Her more recent posts show her in make-up with her teeth apparently whitened, her hair bared, and a nose piercing.
