A Spanish actress widely considered to be the muse of Oscar-winning director Pedro Almodovar has died at the age of 66 and it is believed that she hanged herself in her bathroom.
Spanish actress Veronica Forque has died at the age of 66 and her body was found at her home in the Spanish capital Madrid, in the upmarket residential district of Chamartin, in central Spain on Monday 13th December.
A police spokesperson was quoted as saying: “She committed suicide at her home.”
The police did not give further details, although some local media outlets have reported that she was found hanged from a towel rack in her bathroom with a scarf and that her lifeless corpse was found on Monday morning by a domestic worker, who has not been named.
The worker raised the alarm and alerted a neighbour to the situation, asking them to help her try to save the actress’ life. The neighbour, who has not been named, and the worker managed to take her down and called the emergency services.
But when the medics arrived, they could only pronounce the actress dead.
The police are investigating the incident.
Forque played over 80 characters in film, on television and in theatre productions. Local media report that she is the Spanish actress with the most Goya awards.
She is perhaps most widely known for having starred in the 1993 film ‘Kika’ by Oscar-winning director Pedro Almodovar, 72. Forque is widely considered to have been something of a muse to Almodovar.
