This is the shocking moment a mother watches her four-year-old son die as he wheels his scooter into the path of a speeding car while she desperately tries to warn him.

The boy was fatally injured while walking with relatives in Buftea, Ilfov County, Romania at around 10pm on 23rd June.

Heartbreaking CCTV footage of the tragedy shows the youngster riding his scooter in the road ahead of his family.

Behind him his mother is pushing a baby buggy with a companion beside her.

As the boy tries to scoot across the road to rejoin his family, a car speeds down the road straight into him.

His horrified mother holds her hands up to her mouth and then rushes towards her son.

After the collision, medics managed to resuscitate the boy before taking him to the Grigore Alexandrescu Emergency Hospital for Children in Bucharest.

But just a few hours later being run over the boy died from multiple injuries.

According to reports, the driver left the scene of the accident after ramming the boy, but later gave himself up to police.

The motorist was breathalysed and tested negative for alcohol.

The police investigation is ongoing.
