The father of four children who died when their throats were cut by their mother when she found suspicious messages on his mobile phone has said he wished she had killed him instead.

Dad Lameck Brande, whose age was not given, said he had rushed back to his home in the town of Chivhu in Zimbabwe when he was told that his house was on fire.

Talking for the first time about the tragedy, Lameck said that his wife Emelda Marazani has been so annoyed with him when she found messages on his phone that she had smashed it, but that he had thought the matter was dealt with, and had no idea what she was planning.

Speaking about the tragedy, he said that when he heard the house was on fire, he was doing the shopping and had instantly rushed home. Realising that his family were not there and possibly still inside, he had ripped the burglar bars off one of the windows and climbed into the blazing building.

He told local newspaper “The Herald” that he was shocked by what he saw.

He said: “When I entered one of the rooms, I found two of my children covered in blankets and as I tried to pull them out, I discovered that their throats were slit.

“I managed to pull them out. I then went to the other rooms and found my two elder daughters already burnt, they were tied with a rope.”

He said he had also put their bodies free and then gone looking for his wife, and when he couldn’t find her had rushed to the police station to file a complaint and was amazed when he saw her there.

He said: “She told me that she’d killed our children and then admitted she drank poison. She then collapsed and I took to the hospital.”

Police and firemen called to the scene were shocked to find that the couple’s children identified as Amanda 9, Yolander 5, Ayender 3 and Galender, 1, had been murdered with two of the bodies horrifically burned by the fire.

The woman who has been interviewed about the killing has admitted the murder, saying that she wanted to die to and does not regret what she did.

The 29-year-old said that her husband loved the children more than her and that she had tied the children up before cutting their throats and then setting the house on fire, locking the doors and going to the police station to turn herself in.
