A mother and her 16-year-old daughter have been found dead on the banks of a stream in Brazil after reportedly being bludgeoned with a rock.
Alcione Malheiros Teixeira Ribeiro, 42, and her teen daughter Ana Julia Teixeira Fernandes were found dead in the city of Guanambi in the Brazilian state of Bahia on the morning of 12th December.
Their bodies were found on the banks of a stream next to the BR-030 highway after they went out for a walk.
According to local reports, the victims had signs of violence on the bodies that could have been caused by a rock.
A suspect was arrested a day after the bodies were discovered. The man, 36, name not disclosed, was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time.
The man, who the police said has been investigated for sexual harassment in the past, has confessed to the double murder, according to the news site UOL Noticias.
He reportedly removed the victims’ clothes during the attack, but did not rape either of them. The police suspect he tried to force himself on them, but did not carry out the act and allegedly killed them to prevent them from reporting the incident.
Police spokesperson Rhudson Barcelos said: “The victims were executed with a rock, which he found in the forest.”
Police teams were sent to the scene after the two bodies were found, and forensic experts are carrying out an autopsy to confirm their cause of death.
Meanwhile, the Guanambi City Council has expressed their “regret” and “concern for the regrettable incident” following the victims’ untimely deaths.
The suspect is being held in police custody as the investigation continues.
