This is the beautiful wife who is set to appear in the dock charged with hacking her husband to death with an axe after he dumped her at Christmas.

Anesu Mafokosho, 24, allegedly killed her 26-year-old husband, Vitalis Mudhumo, at their home in the Chikaga suburb located in Mutare, the capital city of Manicaland province, eastern Zimbabwe.

According to local media, the couple had gone Christmas shopping and arrived home before they had a heated argument.

Mudhumo is said to have decided he had had enough and proceeded to move out but Mafokosho was shocked by the decision and reportedly begged him to stay.

When she realised that her husband was unmoved by her pleas, she allegedly grabbed an axe and struck him three times on the neck.

The husband then reportedly fell on the bedroom floor and bled to death.

Immediately afterwards, his wife is said to have fled the scene and called her teenage sister to tell her what happened.

Her sister then informed Mudhumo’s nephew who reported the alleged murder to the police.

Mafokosho then went on the run until she was eventually caught and arrested on 4th January, according to local media.

Local media reported that she will plead insanity in her trial at the High Court.

Her lawyer Mrs Mafusire asked the High Court to let her client be examined by a psychiatrist so that an evaluation is made whether Mafokosho was completely in control of her actions when the killing took place.

Following the incident, the provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, urged couples to resolve arguments in a friendly way.

He said: “We urge couples not to resort to violence and to seek counselling from professionals, community and church leaders to avoid such sad incidents”.

It is unknown when the High Court trial is due to take place.
