Motorised Paraglider Rescued After Crashing Into Coconut Tree

This is the moment an engine-powered paraglider crashes into a palm tree on a beach and he then had to wait for more than an hour before he could be airlifted to safety.

Footage obtained by CEN taken by a beachgoer shows the paramotoring enthusiast’s landing attempt at Itapuama Beach, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco.

Witnesses called the local fire brigade, who attempted to haul the paraglider dangling around 50 feet above the ground to safety using a ladder.

They then called the Brazilian Army’s Pernambuco Tactical Air Group for support.

Around 90 minutes after he crashed into the tree, the evacuation experts managed to free him by using a special rescue cage as hundreds of beachgoers cheered and applauded.

Reactions among netizens were mixed.

User ‘iranioliveira1304’ said: “Damn, I’m relieved he was rescued.”

While ‘danicgib’ argued: “I don’t know why they don’t ban these things. I’m sure he’ll blame it on the coconut tree or the wind.”

And user ‘andreasilax’ responded: “I love how so many people call for a ban. Unfortunately, accidents happen. If we start to prohibit hazards, motorbikes would no longer exist! I’m glad everything went well.”
