This is the shocking moment a mother slaps her seven-month-old baby boy who is ill in hospital before violently grabbing him by his head and lifting him up.

The incident took place in the district of Yenisehir in the province of Diyarbakir in Turkey, when the baby, named only as I.T., was taken to hospital for an intestinal infection.

The mother, identified as Emine T., reportedly became angry because her son was crying.

The video filmed by an unnamed woman in the hospital room shows the mother slapping the crying baby as the woman witness gasps in shock.

She then violently grabs the baby by the hood on his head and lifts him up before throwing him back down.

Despite being reportedly warned by the woman recording her, the mother did not stop the violence, so the woman started to film her.

The footage was handed to the hospital authorities who later started an investigation and arrested the mother.

The mother, who was referred to court, was reportedly released with a judicial control.

According to local media, another close relative arrived to take care of the baby in hospital while he continued to receive treatment.
