This is the moment a young boy is rescued from the bottom of a well after tumbling down the uncovered icy hole while walking with his gran.

The incident was filmed near the city of Novokuznetsk in the south-central Russian region of Kemerovo Oblast, and the footage was later widely shared on social media.

According to local media, the poor tot was walking with his grandmother when he suddenly disappeared down the uncovered well, obscured by recent snowfall.

In the footage, a group of residents are seen using rope to lift the boy out of the hole before a helper who had gone down to help him is also lifted out.

Reports said that the young boy only suffered a minor injury to his leg.

The well was uncovered and partially obscured by snow which made it hard for the grandmother and young tot to see while walking, according to local media.

The authorities are investigating who is responsible for the incident and the well has since been properly covered to prevent similar situations from taking place.

Reports suggest the well owner is likely to face punishment for the accident as the probe continues.
