This is the moment a fleeing suspect skids into a trailer-park pond and local residents wade into the water when they realise two children are inside.

The incident took place near Port Richey in Pasco County in the US state of Florida on 19th November.

The police tried to stop a vehicle for a window tint violation when the driver suddenly sped off and entered a mobile home park.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook: “The suspect driving the fleeing vehicle eventually lost control and crashed into a pond.

“Deputies and citizens rushed into the pond to rescue the suspect, a passenger, and two children within the vehicle. No one was injured.”

The police added: “As deputies were pulling the suspect from the vehicle, a baggie, which contained a substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine, was discovered floating in front of the suspect.

“The suspect was then arrested for several charges, including child abuse, possession of methamphetamines, driving with a suspended license, fleeing to elude, and reckless driving.”

According to the police, the suspect also had three outstanding warrants which he said was the reason why he fled.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office added: “We again thank the citizens that jumped into the pond to assist deputies in rescuing those in the vehicle.”

In the footage, a car is seen skidding into a pond as onlookers cheer and the pursuing police arrive on the scene.

When the bystanders realise there are children in the car, several wade into the pond to help get them to the bank and detain the two adults.
