This is the moment a motorist rams an armed thief on a motorbike as he robs a group of people standing by the roadside.

The incident took place in the neighbourhood of Dom Pedro in the city of Manaus located in the north-western Brazilian state of Amazonas at around 6am on 29th August.

In the CCTV footage, the four people are seen waiting outside a building before noticing someone coming their way.

The person approaching is off-camera, but the group apparently grows anxious and one woman throws her handbag over a fence before sliding another personal item, possibly her phone, underneath, where the robber cannot reach it.

The man who was off-camera on a motorbike then appears with something in his right hand, probably a weapon, and approaches a man in the group.

The two men exchange a few words and the man then hands something to the suspect, reportedly his phone, and the thief checks the traffic to flee the scene.

However, just as he is about to ride off, a speeding car enters the frame and he is forced to jump off his motorbike a second before it is rammed by the driver.

A man, wearing the same green T-shirt as the other workers, appears and chases the suspect on foot.

The rest of the group follows and the suspect is last seen sprinting down the road with both male workers giving chase.

It is unknown what happened after the events in the footage and whether the thief was caught.

The Civil Police has confirmed that they are aware of the video circulating on social media, and an investigation is now underway.
