A woman hanging outside the window during a blaze in her apartment was saved when the man above reached down to pull her to safety.

The shocking incident captured by camera happened on the fifth floor of a high-rise building in the city of Nizhnevartovsk, located in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, which is in Russia’s West Siberian Plain.

The age and identity of the woman was not revealed. But people had quickly gathered when they heard her screaming from the window as smoke billowed out behind her, and as it heated up, she climbed out onto the window ledge where she continued to plead for help.

She was rescued when a man, who was walking below, 29-year-old Ali Omarov, rushed into the property and upstairs where he then managed to get near the woman by going into the flat above. Smoke can still be seen billowing out as well as a curtain is sent flapping by the heat.

Eyewitnesses said that the brave man ran inside without hesitation, and despite the smoke billowing from the apartment below, he leaned down with both hands in order to help the young woman.

The footage shows how he is dramatically hanging over the scene and manages to reach her hands, pulling her up to safety on the second attempt.

For a split second, the crowd were absolutely silent, watching the drama unfold, and then he pulled her inside to safety in the window above.

She was treated at a local hospital where doctors said that apart from smoke inhalation she was otherwise uninjured.

The footage shows that firemen arrived at the scene and were extending their ladder but they did not reach her before she was rescued by the brave man.
