A boyfriend who took a mass of hydrogen-filled balloons into a lift and then tried to give one to a girl because the huge fireball that left her badly burned when he used a lighter to burn through the string.

The video footage was shot in an elevator in the city of Changsha in Hunan Province earlier this week (1 November).

It starts with the lift already full of people as the man identified only by the surname Chen with the hydrogen-filled balloons also then tries to come in.

Seeing a girl he had taken a shine to, he decided to give her one of the balloons but was unable to untie the knot, and decided to use a lighter to burn through the string.

But the flame ignited the hydrogen one of the balloons, creating a fireball that left several people burned including the girl he had taken a shine to who was badly burned in the face.

The man had apparently acquired the balloons shortly after enjoying himself at a karaoke bar, and it’s unclear at what point he acquired the balloons.

Police are investigating.
