This is the moment a caregiver for the elderly is attacked by two dogs and left bloodied on the ground following the savage minutes-long mauling.

Domingas Rodrigues Medeiros, 53, was hospitalised following the attack that took place outside her charge’s house in the city of Cuiaba in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso on 18th October.

Despite the brutality of the attack, she is now back at home recovering from the numerous bites and scratches she received all over her body.

Footage from a home security camera shows how the woman is brought down to the ground by the two large black dogs while her 94-year-old charge is only able to look on, being too elderly and frail to intervene.

The footage ends with a cop shooting dead one of the dogs after he arrived on the scene after neighbours heard the victim’s screams for help and called the police.

When Domingas was admitted to hospital, her head had to be shaved so her cuts could be stitched up.

She told the news portal G1: “I was given general anaesthesia. When I arrived, I was taken to the operating room. I felt a lot of pain.”

The dogs that attacked the caregiver were her charge’s pets and there were no reports of them having previously displayed violent behaviour.

Police officer Luiz Cesar Reinners, who saved the day, explained: “I fired a few shots, as it [the gun] was the only tool I had at the moment. Seeing Ms Medeiros alive is a priceless satisfaction.”
