The incident was filmed in the city of Suizhou, in the Chinese province of Hubei.
In the footage, the young girl is seen running between two stationary vehicles in a car park as the large metal sign suddenly bounces towards her in the wind.
The girl turns and runs, and the metal sign narrowly misses her head before coming to a rest at a man’s feet.
According to reports, the metal sign was placed outside a nursery school on a blustery day.
The girl’s mother told local media that her daughter was playing outside the kindergarten when the large metal sign was suddenly blown towards her.
She said she immediately went to see the nursery school headmistress to complain about the unfixed sign nearly hitting her daughter.
She claimed the headmistress was not at all apologetic about the incident and only asked a staff member to retrieve the sign.
It is unclear if the mother plans to take the matter further, or if the local police have already started an investigation.
