This is the moment two former cops are shot dead by a gunman who sprints out of a car before escaping in the vehicle.

The incident took place in the area known as Centrito Valle, in front of a popular taco restaurant and a gym, in the city of San Pedro, in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon.

Local media report that former police officers David Alfredo Neira Llanas, alias Fiona, and Jesus Moreno de Haro, alias La Bici, were leaving the gym when the attack took place.

In the video, they can be seen standing between two cars when a white vehicle pulls up next to them. A gunman gets out of the white car and opens fire on the pair, chasing after them as they run away.

One of the victims is left lying on the ground as the gunman follows the other off-camera before sprinting back to the waiting car and fleeing in the vehicle.

Local media report one of the victims’ bodies was left outside the gym while the other was inside the gym.

Neira Llanas is reportedly a former police officer from the San Pedro and was being investigated by homicide division of the ministerial police.

After the attack, members of the State Investigations Agency cordoned off the area in order to start the investigation, while the police started an operation to find the culprits.

Manuel Gonzalez, Secretary of the Government, said he believes that the crime is linked with gangs trying to control drug trafficking in the municipality.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been reported.
