This miracle baby girl has survived a fire in a refugee camp in Syria that left her horribly burned and her sister dead after being moved to a specialist hospital in Turkey almost 2 weeks after the blaze.

The 2-year-old Delal, the youngest member of the Dugaym family, was living with her mother and father and five siblings in a tent in the refugee camp after escaping from the attacks of the Assad regime.

They had set up their tent in the refugee camp in Idlib, in Syria, alongside her uncle who briefly left his tent unattended with a lit stove, which then started the blaze.

Delal, 2, whose upper body was completely burned in the fire that broke out on 1st January 2021 in the tent where she lived with her family in the camp in Idlib, Syria, and who was said to have no chance to survive, was discharged from Mersin City Training and Research Hospital in Turkey in May 2021 with the treatment she received. The fire on the 1st January left both tents quickly engulfed in flames, and Delal, whose one older sister died in the fire, was burned at the third and fourth degrees, especially on the upper body and head.

Her mother managed to escape with her four brothers, and she was only saved when her father plunged into the flames and pulled both of the girls out, although her older sister tragically died a few hours later. The dad was also slightly burned in the rescue attempt.

Both girls were taken to a local hospital and from there Delal was brought to Mersin City Training and Research Hospital Burn Center in the Turkish province of Mersin on 11th January, some 10 days later.

She was brought to the hospital with 40 percent of her body burnt completely, which shocked even the doctors. She went through three fatal sepsis, but she recovered and was recently discharged due to her incredible recovery.

According to the doctors, it is unlikely she will ever fully recover. In the meantime, father Abdulfattah Dugaym, 33, moved to Mersin so that the treatment and controls of her daughter, who had to be operated on many more times during this period, could continue.

Speaking to local media and explaining that Delal is okay now, but she has a long process and many surgeries waiting for her, Abdulfattah said: “What Delal needs most right now is her mother.

“I rented a house here, I’m taking care of her, but she really needs a mother to hold on to life. I want my family to be brought here from Syria as soon as possible.

“I hope they will also be brought here.”
