This is the moment a Mexican politician apparently points a gun at a man’s head as they appear to be having a conversation in a public place.

The video, posted on Facebook where it has been viewed 500,000 times, shows Eduardo Antonio Ruiz Pazos, councillor in charge of the implementation of public works in the municipality of Teziutlan in the south-eastern Mexican state of Puebla, in a bar with an unnamed man.

In the clip, Ruiz Pazos is seen taking a gun from his pocket in mid-conversation before pointing it at the man’s head, who cowers out of the way.

According to local media, the mayor of Teziutlan Carlos Peredo Grau authorises his councillors to be armed.

However, the local authorities have yet to make a statement about the widely-shared footage of Ruiz Pazos appearing to point his firearm at another person in public.

Netizen ‘OtxoaPatxi’ wrote: “We all want to trust our politicians again, but they should act in accordance with the constitution and social laws if they want that to happen.”

According to the Mexican constitution, citizens can have firearms in their homes for protection with the exception of weapons prohibited by federal law and those reserved for use by the army, navy, air force and national police.

Guns allowed for civilians can be semi-automatic with a calibre not exceeding 9 millimetres.
