The Mexican authorities have found 131 bodies in a huge single clandestine grave reported to be the largest ever found in the state.
The news was reported by the Jalisco State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) in an official statement they issued on 7th December.
The clandestine grave was found in the area of Los Sabinos in the municipality of El Salto in the Mexican state of Jalisco where police began searching on 1st October.
The authorities were led to the site by the Special Prosecution for Missing Persons (FEPD) where they found the first victims.
A statement by the FGE said: “The work concluded on 30th November at the location of 131 unidentified deceased persons are being analysed at the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Science.”
The report added that 43 bodies have been identified, 40 male and three female, as all but one of them had a missing persons file with the FEPD.
Cops used ground-penetrating radar, drones and construction equipment to dig at the mass grave and find the remains.
According to the local newspaper ‘Excelsior’, the mass grave is the largest uncovered in the state of Jalisco based on the number of victims. (https://bit.ly/3mW5ETa)
