These images show a man who was hospitalised after reportedly trying to cut off his own penis with a knife as he felt depressed because he was unemployed.
The incident took place in the town of Las Matas de Fargan in the San Juan province in the western Dominican Republic.
According to local media, Silfredo de la Rosa, 45 went to the emergency room of the Dr Alejadro Cabral hospital with bad injuries to his penis after he tried to cut it off with a knife.
De la Rosa told local media: “I felt bad. A bad time came for me. I am unemployed so I did not feel well because I am a hard-working man.”
An unnamed doctor at the hospital told local media: “His condition is stable, we stopped the bleeding and we took him to surgery and now he is recovering.”
Doctors at the hospital have not said if they managed to save his penis although they have confirmed that De la Rosa is now recovering after surgery and his health condition is stable.
De la Rosa added: “God wanted to save my life, thanks to him I managed to arrive in time to the hospital. I regret what I did, it is my own fault.”
Doctors stopped the bleeding and saved his penis, according to local media. It is unclear why his arm was bandaged, as seen in the images.
