Chile Protesters Force Lorry Driver To Dump Load

This is the moment a lorry driver is forced to dump his cargo of large rocks on a city street to create a blockade by cheering Chilean protesters.

The incident was filmed the city of Antofagasta in the northern Chilean region of the same name during ongoing protests against inequality in the South American country.

According to local media, protests are continuing in many Chilean towns and cities despite the government backtracking on planned public transport hikes that sparked the riots as well as recently lifting an imposed curfew.

Reports said that the local police stopped the lorry driver and under interrogation he said that protesters threatened him and told him to dump the cargo on the street.

The driver remains in police custody and it is unclear if he has been charged yet.

Local media said the incident took place during a protest that saw angry residents clashing with the cops for over eight hours, during which time they created several roadblocks to create traffic chaos in the city.

In the Chilean capital Santiago, demonstrators gathered outside the La Moneda Palace, seat of the President of the Republic of Chile, to demand changes for a fairer society.

On Monday, President Sebastian Pinera condemned the violence while his new government spokeswoman Karla Rubilar slammed “the scenes of destruction and chaos” that took place over the weekend.
