A young man has been arrested for strangling his model girlfriend to death during rough make-up sex after a heated row over text messages on her mobile phone that she had refused to let him see.
Vasil Vasilev, 23, reportedly tried to kill himself by slashing his wrists and then shooting himself with an air pistol when he realised what he had done.
The incident took place in the area of Banisora in the western Bulgarian capital Sofia where Vasilev has been arrested for killing his 25-year-old girlfriend Kalina Simova in their shared apartment.
According to reports, police found ‘clear signs’ that the young woman who worked as a model had had sex before she was killed, including the fact that she was found naked on the living room sofa and had injuries on her body.
After her death, the young man is said to have sent his father a message saying they had argued, and that she “fell and turned blue”, adding that he would kill himself as a result.
His father immediately called the police who managed to break down the door and found the shocking scene.
The suspect had reportedly tried to slash his wrists before trying to kill himself with an air pistol, but the shot only grazed him.
Reports said that he told arresting cops that he could not remember anything and deeply regretted his girlfriend’s death.
If found guilty of murder, Vasilev faces up to 20 years in prison, according to local media.
The investigation continues.
