This is the moment a biker drives off in broad daylight with the body of an armed robber stolen from a hospital morgue moments earlier in an apparent bid to make the investigation more difficult.

The incident took place at the Hospital Regional Universitario Jaime Mota in the city of Barahona in the province of the same name in southern Dominican Republic.

Commenting on another case, Government lawyer Ivan Ariel Gomez Rubio said the thefts were not uncommon as they make it harder to investigate the crimes the dead people were linked to.

Residents also said that such incidents are common in the area and were made easy by a lack of security.

In the footage, a group of bystanders looks on as several men stand around a hospital stretcher in front of an open door.

A heavyset man then carries the limp body to a waiting motorbike and positions himself on the back.

The two bikers then set off with the dead body and ride off into the distance as dozens of people look on.

According to reports, the dead man, identified as Antony Gomez Cuevas aka ‘Antony Money’, was a suspected criminal who was shot dead by the police during a raid on his home.

He eventually succumbed to his bullet wounds in hospital and the corpse was waiting to undergo an autopsy when it was stolen, according to local media.

‘Antony Money’ reportedly had an arrest warrant issued against him for multiple armed robberies.

It is unclear if the local authorities are investigating the alleged corpse theft.
