This footage allegedly shows a man filming himself choking a cat after an argument with his partner that left the poor animal lifeless on the floor.

The incident took place in the town of Sagezha, which is located in the Republic of Karelia, in north-western Russia recently.

The short video clip shows the 35-year old man throttling the cat named Knupa (Button) as it desperately to breathe. He had reportedly picked it up from an animal shelter before returning home with it about a month ago.

But after arguing with his partner recently, this month (February), he then allegedly filmed himself throttling the poor animal.

The man, who has not been named, allegedly regularly beats the unnamed woman he lives with as well as her children. The man allegedly also regularly beats the poor cat as well as another cat that also lives at the property.

One of the woman’s sons, also unnamed, reportedly got in touch with the animal rights organisation, called Lada, and reported the man to them.

The cat was taken into care by the animal rights organisation. The second piece of footage shows the cat enjoying some food after being rescued by the animal activists. The police also confirmed that the cat is alive and doing much better.

Local residents reportedly feared that the man will get away with everything as police have already released him having interrogated him.

The Ministry of internal affairs of Karelia reportedly confirmed that the statements were being verified and the case was being investigated.
