According to local media, the 35-year-old man refused to come down from the tower for over 30 hours, eventually handing himself over to the local authorities on the ground at around 3.50pm on 21st January, over a day since climbing up.

Fire chief Arrahman Chik said that two units were sent to the scene to persuade the Indonesian worker to come down.

He added: “After climbing down, the man was calmed down by police and fire and rescue personnel with his details recorded. He was later taken by the police for further action.”

The suspect, who works as a carpenter, reportedly climbed the tower while upset following a row with colleagues.

A police team tried to talk him down on the first day, but were unsuccessful.

A team of firefighter were called in to assist, but the man threw objects at them and they were forced to suspend the proceedings, according to local media.

They resumed the following day and the man eventually handed himself over to the authorities on the ground.

Reports said that the Indonesian suspect entered the Malaysian state of Sarawak illegally as the investigation continues.
