This is the moment an unsuspecting pedestrian is sent crashing to the ground when a lampost falls on his head after a man climbing a railing accidentally pushes it over.

The incident happened outside an electronics market in the city of Guangzhou, capital of China’s southern Guangdong Province, where staff members say they tried warning the victim but were ignored because he was listening to music on his earphones.

CCTV footage dated 19th March shows a large crowd in front of the market when the man climbs over the railings as a shotcut.

While doing so, however, he places his hands against the upright lamp post and accidentally pushes it over, with the heavy light then suddenly tipping forwards onto the pavement.

The unsuspecting pedestrian, who is completely unaware of the danger, does not move or even look up as the lamp post weighed down with a concrete centre hits him on the head, knocking him to the ground.

Staff members at the market, which owns the free-standing lighting rig, said they shouted at the pedestrian to warn him about the falling street lamp.

But the victim had his earphones on appearing to be listening to music, so their warnings were ignored.

Fortunately, the pedestrian was not seriously injured, with video showing him sitting on the ground rubbing his presumably swollen head.

For its part in failing to secure the street lamp, the market has promised to pay for for the victim’s medical bills in full and is likely to compensate the pedestrian for his troubles.

Reports did not say whether the man who pushed the street lamp over would face any punishment.
