This is the moment a giant 10-foot python in the middle of a busy road causes traffic chaos and strikes at passing cars before a fearless resident grabs it with his bare hands and poses for photos with it.

The fat snake, which reportedly measured 55 pounds, was first spotted curled up in the middle of the road.

The animal appears to be a mature Burmese python (Python bivittatus) and stopped traffic in Kaohsiung’s Daliao District in south-western Taiwan on the evening of 17th August.

The video shows cars driving slowly past the python, but it strikes at the side of every vehicle, leaving exposed scooter riders too scared to attempt to pass.

The python then slithers to the side of the road before local resident Chen Chih-chan takes matters into his own hands.

He can be seen luring the snake away using a plastic pipe. He and another man dance around the python before Mr Chen grabs it by the tail, the footage shows.

The brave and confident Mr Chen then musters the courage to grab the snake by the head, and he is seen showing the serpent off to the crowd and posing for photos.

He told local media: “I wasn’t really scared. It’s non-venomous!”

In the clip, the fire service arrives with a large plastic drum, and several men lift and place the snake into the container which is then covered.

According to reports, the firefighters had turned up earlier with a cage, but they soon realised they would need a much larger vessel.

The python has been handed over to the local Forestry Bureau for release.
