A woman who had a tummy tuck after seven children was left in incredible pain after a bungling surgeon accidentally left scissors inside and then told her she was imagining it when she told him how she was suffering.
Nurcihan Ogmen, 61, who is married and has seven children, living in the district of Soke in the south-western Turkish province of Aydin, underwent tummy tuck surgery in a private hospital in the district of Kusadasi on 5th March.
According to the local news website AHaber’s report, excess skin on Nurcihan’s abdomen was removed by her doctor, identified as L. A., in an operation that lasted almost 5 hours.
Nurcihan, who stayed in the hospital for one day, was then discharged.
But she started suffering from swelling and severe pain in her stomach. Thereupon, she went to L. A. and was examined.
Allegedly, Dr L. A. told Nurcihan that the pain and swelling in the abdominal area was normal and would pass.
Nurcihan, whose complaints about her stomach continued for two months, later went to Soke State Hospital with her husband Kubdettin Ogmen, whose age was not given, on 3rd May.
After an x-ray, the doctors determined that Nurcihan had a pair of scissors left in her abdomen.
Only then did the doctor L. A. grudgingly agree to act and carried out a two-hour operation to remove them.
Stating that she lived with scissors in her stomach for two months, Nurcihan said, “After the operation, my pain got worse. It became so severe that I went to check-ups almost every week. The doctor did not believe me and sent me away saying that I just need to be patient.
“Each time he dismissed me, he was not interested in listening to me at all. I could not explain the incredible pain I was into him. I still feel the pain. I’m still not fully recovered.”
Nurcihan, through her lawyer Mehmet Korkut, filed a complaint to the Kusadasi Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office about the doctor L. A., the hospital administration and the medical personnel who participated in the operation.
Hospital officials or the doctor did not comment on the issue.
