The incident took place at the La Porte County Jail in the US state of Indiana, when the police found the eight-and-a-half-inch scissors in the man’s anal cavity after he refused to submit to a search, on Wednesday, 17th May.

Newsflash obtained a statement from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office dated 18th May saying: “Yesterday afternoon, Lieutenant Jeff Holt – Assistant Jail Commander of Operations, was assisting Jail Deputies with the intake of an arrestee inside the La Porte County Jail (LCJ).

“While completing the process of the intake, the arrestee refused to participate in a Body Scan.”

The police explained: “A ‘SecurPASS’ Body Scan is a requirement for all arrestees to complete prior to acceptance as an inmate at the LCJ.”

The statement continued: “The arrestee reluctantly agreed to participate in a scan.”

The authorities said that they then formed the scan and noticed the foreign object inside the man, saying: “While reviewing the scan image, Lieutenant Holt observed what appeared to be a foreign object inside the anal cavity of the arrestee.

“From his training and experience, he recognized the item as being consistent with that of a metal object.

“The arrestee was escorted from the scanner room to a nearby area for an additional search.”

But they said: “Once again, the arrestee refused to cooperate with Jail Deputies.

“Lieutenant Holt had the subject complete a second body scan.

“Upon review of the newly scanned image, he noticed the foreign object had moved and he was able to positively identify the object as scissors.”

The statement added: “A short time later, the scissors were removed from the arrestee without incident.”

The cops said that NSA introduced the SecurPASS Body Scanner in 2017, they had all sorts of objects from inside inmates, including “tattooing equipment, drugs, paraphernalia, miscellaneous foreign objects, and now scissors.”

Captain Derek J. Allen said: “The body scanner is an incredible state of the art tool used to ensure the safety and security of all within the La Porte County Jail.

“Lieutenant Holt is commended for relying upon his training and experience, and successfully preventing a dangerous edged object from making its way fully into the jail.”

It is currently unclear what the inmate, who has not been named, was being booked for.
