A man accused of beating his brother-in-law to death with a bar stool after he peed on his leg during a boozy night out has been seized by police.

Suspect Gede Wijaya has told police in the district of South Kuta, Bali, Indonesia, that he and victim Troy Scott Johnston, 40, had been drinking a powerful local spirit called arak.

But, said Wijaya, Johnston got aggressively drunk and deliberately urinated down his leg during the night out on Thursday, 23rd February.

He said: “He peed on my left leg. He was drunk, he had lost control. I tried to tell him to cut it out. But he went inside and threw glass cups at me.”

When he told him to stop, Wijaya told police, his brother-in-law reportedly got angry and threw cups at him before picking up the barstool.

When Wijaya tried to restrain him, according to local media, the stool fatally hit Johnstone on the head.

A picture of the aftermath of the drunken brawl shows Johnston apparently dead on the floor with his wife Ni Nyoman Purnianti weeping over his body the following morning.

Johnston’s wife had gone looking for him after he failed to return home after the late-night drinking session.

She reportedly found him with a fatal injury to his head on the terrace of the bar.

Wijaya now faces 15 years in prison for murder.

Johnston and Purnianti, along with their young child, unnamed, had reportedly gone to Bali on holiday.

The investigation is ongoing.
