This video shows the moment local residents try to subdue a man who had just stabbed dead his sister and aunt before the police arrived on the scene to immobilise and arrest him.
A second video, filmed by a distraught neighbour, shows the bloody aftermath of the double killing in which the suspect’s young nephew miraculously escaped unharmed.
The shocking incident took place in the neighbourhood of Vila Marilia in the city of Senador Canedo in the west-central Brazilian state of Goias on Friday, 26th November.
Residents told the police the 37-year-old suspect stabbed his sister and aunt following a row in their home.
A child, thought to be the suspect’s nephew, escaped covered in blood but otherwise unscathed.
A video filmed in the aftermath of the alleged crime shows how three locals, one wielding a wooden stick, circle the knifeman as they try to subdue him.
The suspect and the two victims all lived in the same house, according to the Military Police (Brazil’s preventive police force).
The child was found unharmed in a bedroom after neighbours entered the residence after they heard the victims’ screams.
The women were already apparently dead, as seen in the harrowing footage.
Upon leaving the house, the suspect stabbed a stonemason who was on the street at the time, according to the news portal G1.
Police officers who happened to be on patrol shot the suspect in the right leg when they approached him and he reportedly reacted.
They took him to the Goiania Emergency Hospital in the nearby state capital under arrest. His condition was last reported as stable.
The injured stonemason was taken to the Aparecida de Goiania State Hospital in the nearby city of the same name. He was last reported to be in the ICU in a serious but stable condition.
One of the victims was attractive 31-year-old Cristiana do Rosario Leite, the suspect’s sister. The aunt has been named as Luisa Miranda, age not reported.
The suspect has been named as 37-year-old Pedro do Rosario Leite.
The Civil Police (Brazil’s investigative police force) is investigating the case. However, at the time of reporting, the motive for the crime remained unknown.
