This is the moment an agile e-bike rider leaps from his seat a split second before a car ploughs into the side of his vehicle – and manages to escape with just an injured finger.
The traffic accident happened on Fotang Avenue in the city of Yiwu in East China’s Zhejiang Province on 24th October.
The video shows electric bike rider Mr Ni waiting at a red light at a junction when a saloon car turns into the crossroads and is hit by an SUV.
Saloon driver Mr Wang, whose wife and friend were in the car, is sent veering into the opposite direction, while SUV driver Mr Li and his wife career off road towards the e-bike.
With virtually no time to react, Mr Ni makes the life-saving decision to let go of his handlebars and leap off his seat a split second before Mr Li’s SUV crashes into the side of his bicycle.
The e-bike spins 180 degrees and Mr Ni falls onto the road before picking himself up right away.
Yiwu police said four people were injured during the crash, including Mr Ni, who hurt one of his fingers.
He told arriving officers: “Had I not jumped, I’d have lost both legs!”
Mr Wang and his friend suffered soft tissue injuries, while Mr Wang’s wife broke her ribs, the authorities reported.
According to the police statement, saloon owner Mr Wang was to bear primary responsibility for the accident for failing to allow straight-travelling cars to pass before turning.
Mr Li was charged with secondary responsibility for failing to slow down at the junction.
