Jamie Johnson, 45 – from Hubert, North Carolina, USA – couldn’t believe his luck when he scooped USD 100,000 (GBP 81,000).

The problem was, neither did his wife when he called her. She said she wouldn’t believe it was true until she saw it with her own eyes.

Jamie explained: “She thought I was lying at first. I had to meet up with her to show her the ticket.”

He’d bought the lucky USD 30 (GBP 24) 200X The Cash ticket while heading to work one morning.

Jamie said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “I scratched the ticket at work and then told my co-worker, ‘I just won USD 100,000.’

“He told me, ‘If that’s true, lunch is on you.'”

Accompanied by his wife, Jamie collected his prize at the North Carolina Lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Friday, 27th January.

He took home USD 71,259 (GBP 57,000) following state and federal taxes.

He said he’d use the windfall to do some home restorations and help his daughter with her college tuition fees.

North Carolina Education Lottery said: “The 200X The Cash game launched in March with six top prizes of USD 5 million [GBP 4.0 million] and 18 USD 100,000 prizes.
