A woman has won a nearly USD 500,000 jackpot with a USD 1 ticket after her husband reminded her that she needed to play.

Teresa Logan, 60, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, said that she and her husband play the lottery on their phones, adding: “He told me that night, ‘Don’t forget to play your Cash 5.”

Her USD 1 (GBP 0.81) ticket matched all five white balls in the draw last Wednesday and Teresa was stunned to discover that she had won USD 491,451 (GBP 399,156).

Teresa said: “We’ve just been soaking it all in.”

Newsflash obtained a statement from the North Carolina Lottery on Monday, 30th January, saying: “A USD 1 lottery ticket will go a long way toward helping Fayetteville resident Teresa Logan and her husband retire after it became a USD 491,451 Cash 5 jackpot.”

The North Carolina Lottery said that Teresa had “bought her lucky Quick Pick ticket using Online Play”.

She said: “Me and my husband like to play Cash 5 on our phones.”

She added: “He told me that night, ‘Don’t forget to play your Cash 5.”

Teresa told how she found out she had won, saying: “I logged into my account and saw the amount flash on my phone,.”

She added: “I told my husband, ‘Honey, we won, we won’.”

Lottery officials said: “Logan arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home USD 350,160” (GBP 284,396).

Teresa said that she plans to put her winnings towards their retirement and do some home renovations.
