This video shows a grandfather scaling the side of a residential block with his bare hands after his toddler granddaughter locked him out and he climbed eight floors to reach her.

The dramatic footage was captured by neighbours inside the Fuze Yayuan Residential District in Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province in south-western China, on 24th September.

The mobile phone footage shows the unnamed pensioner in his 60s already halfway up the side of high-rise Block 3, using ledges and windowsills to ascend the side of the building.

He had reportedly gone out to run an errand and left his young granddaughter, aged around three, sleeping at home, but when he returned he found the front door bolted shut.

In the video, a witness can be heard shouting: “Don’t move! Stop climbing! We’ll get the door open for you!”

Residents said they had called the police and the fire service, but the sprightly grandad would not stop climbing and is eventually seen reaching his sitting-room window, which he crawls through.

The grandfather, who was not harmed during the stunt, said: “[My granddaughter] woke up and locked the front door. I tried to make her open the door, but it didn’t work.

“She didn’t respond. Maybe she went back to sleep.

“I thought maybe her mum came back and took her out, or maybe she was sleeping.

“I panicked. I was afraid something would happen to her, so I came up.”

The pensioner was spoken to by local police, and promised never to attempt a similar stunt again.
