This is the moment a lucky lorry driver speeds away at the last second narrowly avoiding a huge landslide crashing down a mountain nearby.

The near miss was captured on a traffic camera as rock and sand rolled down the steep side of Mingzi Mountain in the county of Yongshan, which is in Yunnan Province in south-western China, yesterday (7th April).

Local authorities said the incident occurred at around 2pm local time, with a secondary landslide reported about three hours after that.

Footage thought to be taken by the lucky lorry driver shows his vehicle stopped on a bridge as he films the huge cloud of dust and smoke rolling down the mountain behind him.

The landslide lasted for several minutes, reports said.

Debris crashing down Mingzi Mountain covered a section of the road, which became impassable, traffic police noted.

Besides the lorry driver, no other cars or pedestrians were believed to have been on the road at the time of the landslide.

No injuries have been reported at the time of writing.

The roads remain closed to the public as a clean-up operation continues.

Local authorities said government officials were involved in ongoing work to asses the terrain and reopen the roads.

The precise cause of the landslide was still unclear at the time of writing.
