(starts)

This is the moment two environmental conservation officers rescue a bear that had trapped itself inside a man’s SUV.

Newsflash obtained the footage from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as well as a statement that said the rescue mission took place in the town of Hurley, in the state of New York, in the USA.

Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) Johnson and Walraven quickly arrived at the scene after a man called the police saying he found a bear had broken into his SUV and shut itself inside.

The footage shows the two environmental officers using a rope to open the back hatch and force the bear out.

They had positioned their vehicles at the back end of the SUV to create a funnel in a safe direction, while the New York state police had shut down the nearest road to ensure the animal’s safety.

The bear can be seen escaping out of the car and down the assembled route and appears to have been unharmed – unlike the vehicle, which had sustained heavy damage.
