Civil servant Indialma Antunes de Oliveira had undergone the op on her back and tummy at a clinic in Goiania but collapsed from a cardiac arrest days later.

Horrified Indialma awoke from a coma in hospital to find surgeons had amputated her right leg below the knee, her left toes and the fingers on her right hand.

Medics told her she had been suffering from a severe body-wide infection and that the surgery had saved her life.

Indialma, 43, had the original cosmetic procedure on 10th July 2021 but began to feel unwell the following day, reported local media.

She went to hospital and was sent home with medication, but her condition worsened and she had to go back two days later.

When she arrived, she had a cardiac arrest and was taken straight to the ICU, where she fell into a coma.

She was only allowed home after 40 days in hospital and has since learned how to walk with a prosthetic leg.

She fell into depression and has been unable to return to work.

Indialma told local media: “I was left with marks and scars all over my body, as well as holes in my bum.

“Today I can no longer do things I used to like, such as hiking, physical activities, travelling by motorbike, even driving a car.”

She reported the surgeon who carried out the cosmetic procedure to Civil Police on 10th January.

The surgeon is now being investigated for causing bodily injury.

His lawyer claimed: “The surgery was successful, with no complications”.

She blamed critical care medics for Indialma’s amputations, alleging that she developed a blood clot in an artery after they inserted a catheter into her lower leg.

Indialma also has an active lawsuit against the cosmetic surgeon for punitive damages.

The cases are ongoing.
