A cold-blooded killer who tucked into sausage and chips after hacking a Ukrainian refugee to death with an axe when she rejected his advances has been jailed for life.
Victim Alina F., 21, was attacked as she left a refugee guesthouse in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, in Germany, the Munich II Regional Court heard.
The night before she had furiously reprimanded her killer Shadi Barham, 29, at a party for taking photographs of her without her permission.
But as she left the apartment block Barham, also a refugee. ambushed Alina, who had fled the war in Ukraine in search of safety, and repeatedly hit her head from behind with a hand axe.
Even when she was lying on the ground pouring blood, merciless Barham continued to rain down blows on her skull.
At a hearing on 21st November, jury members said Barham had carried out the attack with “an absolute will to destroy”.
Prosecutors said after the brutal attack, the killer casually walked off to treat himself to a breakfast of sausage and chips.
The presiding judge said he had attempted to deny the woman’s right to sexual self-determination and that his motives were “bottom drawer”.
Defence lawyers said he suffered from a personality disorder but judges said it did not excuse his behaviour.
Barham’s life sentence is not yet binding as the court’s verdict can be appealed under German law.
