A cruel layabout strangled his councilwoman girlfriend to death with a rope because she got fed up with having to pay all his bills and asked for a break-up.

Councilwoman Yanny Brena and her boyfriend, Rickson Pinto, were found hanging side by side at her home in the Brazilian city of Juazeiro do Norte on 3rd March.

Civil Police in Ceara State believe Pinto, 27, murdered 26-year-old Yanny before taking his own life.

A police source told local media that she had been trying to end the relationship since 26th February, but Pinto was refusing.

The source also revealed Yanny had injuries suggesting a physical struggle before the alleged killing.

Police suspect Pinto strangled the councilwoman with a rope and tried to make it look like a suicide by hanging her from the ceiling.

Then, investigators believe, he hanged himself on a noose next to her body.

The autopsy report is still pending.

Creepily, Pinto’s last social media post was a tribute to his girlfriend on Instagram Stories reading: “You have a good heart”.

According to local media, a friend of the victim told police in an interview: “Yanny reported that she no longer wanted to keep paying Rickson’s bills.

“He never split the couple’s expenses, she always covered everything.”

The friend told police that Yanny had confided this to her two weeks before the alleged killing.

Yanny was a medical doctor, as well as a Liberal Party councilwoman for Juazeiro do Norte.

She had 15,300 followers on Instagram at the time of writing.

Pinto described himself as a roper at vaquejadas (Brazilian rodeos) but had no fixed occupation, say police.

The couple had been together since 2020, against the wishes of Yanny’s family.

Her uncle, Carlos Gilvan, told local media: “She left home with this guy and her father and mother didn’t accept this relationship.”

Local media report that Pinto was arrested in 2018 for illegally carrying a firearm.
