A surveillance camera video has shown the tragic moment a woman collapses in a gym in Ecuador while doing squats.

The woman, identified as Betsy Dayana Jaramillo Ramirez, aged 28, shocked weightlifters when she dropped dead in the city of Santa Rosa, in Sonoma County, Ecuador, on Tuesday, 29th November.

She was reportedly doing several squats while holding a disc-shaped weight in her hands when she stopped for a brief moment in the middle of a workout at the Zona Muscular gym.

The gym’s security cameras captured the whole scene and then showed the woman collapsing to the ground, as worried gymgoers cut their workouts short and rush to help her.

They reportedly tried to resuscitate her but as she showed no response, they immediately took her to a local hospital for medical aid.

However, doctors could only confirm the 28-year-old woman’s death some time later. She had reportedly suffered a heart attack.

The unsettling video shocked netizens on social media platforms.

Facebook user ‘Angel Garcia’ commented: “Death comes to us suddenly mind so we must be prepared and have God in our hearts and mind.”

A second user named ‘Stefania Cruz Castrillon’ added: “The importance of learning first aid.”

Another user ‘Javier Calderon Gonzalez’ said: “I think the instructors should be trained not to do exercises that affect the heart or blood pressure.

“In general, fat people always go to the gym, but you can’t send them to do exercises just like that.”

The woman was buried at the city’s main cemetery after people paid their respects at her memorial service that took place in front of the Primer de Mayo park.
