The South African lovebirds whose KFC marriage proposal went viral last week have been approached by a host of top brands and big names to boost their big day which some are now calling a ‘national wedding’.

After Hector Mkansi got down on one knee and proposed to Nonhlanhla Soldaat in a KFC restaurant, the video was shared on Twitter by KFC South Africa where it went viral with over 3.4 million views.

At the time, KFC South Africa also asked for help in identifying the couple, while several companies stepped in to offer the bride a free wedding dress as well as a honeymoon for the star couple.

Excited netizens also called for the ‘national wedding’ to be broadcast live on TV.

Since being named, the couple was recently invited to the Soweto derby between the Kaizer Chiefs, Hector’s favourite team, and the Orlando Pirates, supported by the bride-to-be, which the Chiefs won 3-2.

According to local media, top brands including Coca-Cola, Huawei, Puma, Audi, Tsogo Sun and Siwela Wines have pledged gifts or services to make the big day even more special.

Similarly, star music names such as DJ Fresh, Donald, Ami Faku and Zakes Bantwini have offered to drop some tunes at the highly-anticipated wedding.

KFC public affairs director Zinhle Modiselle said the company will assist with coordinating the donations and pledges which continues to flood in after the proposal went viral.

The South African lovebirds have yet to announce a date for the ‘national wedding’.
