Worker Constantin Furnica, 41, from the municipality of Hehlen, Holzminden district, in the state of Lower Saxony, Germany, was detained for stabbing his ex-girlfriend Anka a total of 25 times.

The 39-year-old textile worker was coming home from work when Furnica ambushed her and attacked her on Schulstrasse at around 10pm on Tuesday, 24th October.

Media revealed that the two had dated for five years, before the mum of two children aged 13 and 20, broke up due to frequent arguments.

Unable to accept the separation, the 41-year-old Romanian native then decided to take revenge.

On the day of the murder, he reportedly stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife until he was certain she was no longer alive.

A local who witnessed the incident told German newspaper Bild: “I heard terrible screams and ran to the window. It was like an execution.

“As if he was out of his mind, the man stabbed the woman again and again.

“In her neck, back, heart, stomach – and even when she was lying on the ground. At least 25 stitches.”

The witness continued: “This is so horrible. We all knew them. A simple, kind-hearted woman. I’m so sorry I couldn’t help her.”

Hildesheim Public Prosecutor’s Office said that Furnica was already known to the police from before.

Cops looked for him with sniffer dogs and helicopters after he fled the scene following the crime.

At the time police spokeswoman Stefanie Ockenfeld said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from the Holzminden Police Station: “The suspect is around 180 centimetres [5.9 feet] tall, has brown eyes, tattoos on his arms, and is bald.”
