This footage shows a jilted 22-year-old attacking a high school girl with a huge watermelon knife leaving her with her fingers hacked off and her head scalped after they met online and she turned him down.

The horrific attack happened in Gushan District in Taiwan’s south-western port city of Kaohsiung on 7th September.

CCTV images captured the moment the girl, surnamed Yang, runs out of her family’s shop with the suspect surnamed Tseng, 22, in pursuit.

The video taken by a CCTV camera on Wenzhong Road allegedly shows Tseng – a university student – lifting his arm and repeatedly hacking the girl more than 20 times as she tries to resist.

Yang is seen sprawled on the ground as Tseng continues to attack her with a long blade used to cut watermelon.

A female witness can be seen throwing a motorcycle helmet at the attacker in a failed bid to stop him.

The teenager reportedly lost several fingers trying to shield herself from the blade, but also lost part of her scalp to the blade in the process.

The knife attack only stopped when a witness, named in reports as Mr Chen, heroically kicked the blade out of the suspect’s hand.

Kaohsiung police detained Tseng at the scene shortly after and seized the weapon too.

Paramedics treated a heavily injured Yang at the scene – reportedly collecting her severed digits with the help of bystanders – before transporting her to Kaohsiung Medical University.

The victim, who has been identified as a secondary school pupil, and whose age has not been released, is in intensive care and recovering from lacerations to her hands, head, torso and legs, local authorities noted.

Taiwanese media reports her severed fingers cannot be reattached.

The Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office has ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody as investigations continue.

According to reports, Tseng and Yang met through an online chat room, but she repeatedly rejected his advances, making it clear that she did not wish to be his girlfriend.

The jilted suspect then waited outside the victim’s family business in order to ‘ambush’ her with the blade, reports said.
