A Jewish actress who lives in Germany has called for peace in Israel saying she fears for her family who live there and adding that the suffering on both sides of the war “is unbearable”.
Susan Sideropoulos, 43, from the city of Hamburg, whose mum’s side of the family lives in Israel, opened up to her Instagram followers in a heartbreaking post on Monday, 13th November.
The stunning actress, who boasts more than 207,000 followers on the social media platform, said: “Things haven’t been the same since 7th October.
“Just because I don’t say something about it or share information every day doesn’t mean that it isn’t my first and last thought every day before I go to sleep.”
The gorgeous blonde’s Jewish grandparents reportedly emigrated to the Middle East in 1934, before they returned to Germany in the 1950s.
Explaining that she grew up with Jewish traditions and values, Susan said: “It was only a month ago that the worst terrorist attack on Israel was carried out.
“Thousands of civilians were murdered [many of which at a peace festival] and 240 hostages are still missing, including 30 children.
“Since that day there has been a terrible war. And in a war, there are only losers – on both sides. The suffering in Gaza and Israel – unbearable.
“Anyone who weighs in here has lost sight of humanity!”
Susan sought compassion and empathy for the pain and losses on both ends of the conflict and said “anger, hostility, fear, and more division each day” would not lead to peace.
She added: “There are currently more than 200 wars taking place in the world, most of which we don’t even know about.
“But only in this war, which has always been complex, does everyone suddenly believe they know everything.
“This war affects me, I have family locally and I see things that happen on our streets on social media.
“It scares me, but I try to remain confident that we can find a way here, far away, to stand up for peace together.”
Her post was praised by many of her fans.
Instagram user ‘ruthmoschner’ said: “Wise words, dear Susan! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your text and your greatness!
“This whataboutism serves no one but terror. But we won’t let him win!”
User ‘amicelliamicellii’ commented: “True words, if only everyone thought like that.”
And ‘kmb_18’ added: “Thank you for your words, dear Susan. It can hardly be put more accurately. There is only one solution: peace.”
As of 16th November, more than 12,500 people have been killed since the start of the conflict in early October.
