This jealous husband has been arrested for beheading his wife with a machete in a fit of rage after she tried to leave him for another man.

Farmer Yoeun Roeuth, 33, allegedly killed wife Mann Sophea, 37, at their home in the Kanteu II commune of the Banan District of north-western Cambodia’s Battambang Province.

Deputy district police chief Major Ream Raing said Roeuth had become suspicious after his wife returned from visiting her parents in Kampong Speu Province.

“He took a machete and slashed her neck several times until her head was cut off from her body,” he said.

Roeuth told cops he had overheard his wife’s parents on the phone telling her to leave him and marry another man.

“When she showed me a photo of the man, I lost control because I loved her so much,” he reportedly said.

Roeuth fled the scene but was later found and arrested in the village by police who had been called to the scene by neighbours. They also seized the alleged murder weapon.

Police initially suspected Roeuth had been under the influence of drugs at the time of the murder but a urine test for drugs came back clean.

Major Raing said the couple had a volatile relationship as Roeuth was a jealous man who had often beaten his wife while drunk.

Ms Sophea’s family had regularly urged her to leave him but their efforts had been in vain as he would never agree to a separation.

Roeuth has been charged with murder and remanded in police custody until he appears in court. He faces a life sentence in jail if he is convicted.
