This is the moment bus passengers punch a would-be mugger’s ticket when he pulls out a gun to steal their phones and wallets.

CCTV footage of the hapless crook shows him waving a pistol around from the back seat demanding that everyone surrenders their valuables.

At first the passengers – in Naucalpan, Mexico – comply.

But all the while, a burly man in a dark suit is closely observing the gunman’s every move.

And when the mugger is distracted, he jumps to his feet and launches himself forward trapping the thug’s gun arm.

Within seconds almost everyone else on the bus piles on.

The thief can be heard squealing in pain as passengers take turns to punch and kick him.

At one point he is seen being battered around the head with his own gun.

In one scene, the man in the suit hands the suspect’s gun to another passenger and uses his fists to deliver a series of blows.

A photograph of the alleged assailant sporting a bandaged head while in police custody has been circulating on social media.

It is unclear what happened after the events in the CCTV footage, however the Secretariat of Security of Mexico State and the Attorney General of Mexico have both confirmed that an investigation is underway.
