Italian Expert Teams Aid Rescue Mission In Flood-Hit Libyan City

Rescue teams from Italy have arrived in flood-hit areas of Libya to assist search and rescue operations within the wrecked cities.

The team, consisting of 33 firefighters, including experts in water rescue, NBCR (Nuclear Biological Chemical Radiological) operators, TAST (Technical Assistance Support Team), TLC (Telecommunications), and an expert in Emergency Communication, has been actively engaged in operations along the Wadi Derna River within the city of Derna as of 14th September.

They were sent under the coordination of the Department of Civil Protection to assist the city that was hit by Hurricane Daniel.

The much-needed help comes after recent floods and inundations in the region, with Italy’s firefighters stepping in to provide vital assistance.

Prefect Laura Lega, the Head of the Department, stated: “The commitment of Italian firefighters in the Libyan emergency scenario continues after the recent floods and inundations.

“In response to the immediate needs, we dispatched a small team of observers to assess the aid, search, and rescue operations to be organised.”

Additionally, the Italian Navy transported around a thousand emergency beds and cots from the Quick Response Assistance Center (CAPI) in Potenza.

Despite the complex and compromised territorial conditions resulting from the collapse of two Libyan dams, the personnel is operating with professionalism and speed in the Derna region.
