An Israeli man has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing his young wife 20 times in front of their toddler son while her horrified parents also watched in a live video chat.

The brutal attack that left the young woman fighting for her life took place in the couple’s home in the southern Israeli town of Mitzpe Ramon shortly after the woman started a video chat with her parents, with her 18-month-old son also in the room.

The suspect Aviad Moshe, 45, is accused of stabbing 31-year-old Shira 20 times on the eve of the Rosh Hashanah holiday on 18th September.

He also allegedly beat her with a rolling pin and strangled her.

According to the indictment, Shira told her parents that she intended to celebrate the festival at their home without him after a heated row, which sent him into a rage.

He had then attacked her and threw her to the floor, with everything seen by her horrified parents.

They watched as Shira told the suspect that she wanted to divorce him and went to pack a suitcase, at which point the suspect locked the front door and closed all the shutters to prevent her from leaving.

When she went to pick up their young son from the floor, Aviad allegedly began beating her with a rolling pin. The indictment said he then started to strangle her.

Meanwhile, her parents remained on the video call and the child looked on in tears.

According to the indictment, Moshe sat on his wife and strangled her, saying: “Die already, you won’t be his mother.”

At that point, neighbours heard the noise and tried to enter the home, but were unable to.

The suspect is accused of then taking a kitchen knife to repeatedly stab his wife while also continuing to hit her with the rolling pin.

According to the indictment, Moshe stopped the attack, opened the front door while holding the knife, and took the child to the bathroom where he remained until the police arrived on the scene.

The victim was rushed to hospital in a serious condition and has since undergone multiple operations to rebuild her face, according to Channel 12.

A crowdfunding page to raise NIS 320,000 (GBP 72,222) to “restore Shira’s smile” has already raised a whopping NIS 1.4 million (GBP 315,940) in donations from over 12,000 people.
